Trauma specialists

“We need to stop seeing people for what is wrong with them and instead ask what has happened to them.” - Gabor Mate

This quote by Dr. Mate speaks to the issues within our healthcare system, including our mental health care system, of generally focusing on managing of symptoms and blaming willpower when change proves difficult. This often leads to feelings of hopelessness and self blame which then perpetuates mental health and physical health symptoms. At Bonfire Health, we recognize that trauma and stress responses impact all aspects of our mental and physical health and often underly chronic conditions and contribute to anxiety, panic responses, mood disorders, ADHD, addictions, eating disorders, self harming behaviors, maladaptive behaviors, autoimmune issues, chronic pain, and chronic illness. We also recognize that trauma is pervasive and takes many forms including verbal and physical abuse, neglect, attachment issues, marginalization, discrimination, bullying, and any other event(s) that lead us to question our physical, social (belonging), or emotional safety. For true healing we must include trauma treatment that heals both mind and body through building strong therapeutic relationships, releasing traumatic memories, understanding and calming our nervous system responses, and finding ways to regulate inflammatory responses utilizing both trauma therapy and holistic nourishment. We believe that healing happens within relationship and therefore we emphasize a safe, secure, and nonjudgemental space in which there is freedom to speak freely and openly about experiences both outside and inside of therapy.

Work with Bonfire Healing:

Utilizing insurance benefits to support therapy, nutrition counseling, and mental health treatment ensures access to needed care and we encourage you to utilize your benefits. We are aware of the challenges clients can face when attempting to find mental health care with insurance billing and that this at times creates health equity issues. Our goal is for all our clinicians to be able to accept all WA state insurance as in network providers. We hope to build transparency in this process and below are our current statuses with Washington insurance. The process takes varying amounts of time due to differences in insurance companies’ protocols for processing new provider requests and sometimes isn’t available for varying reasons per insurance companies’ requirements. This list will be updated as changes occur. If you have any questions, please reach out and we will help in any way that we can.

Currently:

  • Premera BCBS and Lifewise - all clinicians can accept as in network providers.

  • Regence BCBS - Bonnie can accept as in network provider. All clinicians in July or August. Optionally, clients can utilize out of network benefits while waiting if available through your plan.

  • Aetna - Bonnie can accept as in network provider.. Alizee and Rebecca in late July or August. Catherine and Leilani in the fall. Optionally, clients can utilize out of network benefits while waiting if available through your plan.

  • Cigna - Bonnie can accept as in network provider. Cigna is on a hold until September, we expect all clinicians to be in network in October or November. Optionally, clients can utilize out of network benefits while waiting if available through your plan.

  • United Health care/Oscar/Optum - Bonnie can accept as in network provider. We are attempting to work with them for all clinicians to be network, not yet approved.

  • WA state Apple Health - In process, unclear exact timing though very likely sometime this summer.

  • WA state Medicare - Bonnie can accept as in network provider due to their requirements.

  • Tricare - In the works, please check back next month.

  • Kaiser - If you have Kaiser insurance and would like to utilize our care as in-network please let them know. We have applied to them. We may be able to utilize a single case agreement with Kaiser for in network care, reach out for more details.

If your insurance is not listed here, please reach out and we’ll look into for you. We are always open to figuring out how to become in network with your insurance; if we can, then we will!
